NYTimber support Boroughbridge Primary School children's woodland project

NYTimber, the local independent timber specialist, has helped school children at Boroughbridge Primary School & Nursery with a special woodland-themed project.

The company’s Ripon branch donated the timber the class needed to make bird boxes, after the school reached out to local businesses for support.

Pupils in the Year 4 class worked together to research, design, and make bird boxes suitable for small birds including Blue Tits, Robins and Sparrows, with the help of their teacher, Mrs Jenkinson.

The woodwork project was part of a module called “Which animals thrive in our local community?” and included learning more about different species of birds and their life cycles.

Established in 1979, NYTimber is one of the largest independent timber importers and merchants in the North East. It supplies fencing and decking, oak flooring and doors, constructional timber, roof trusses, sheet materials, cladding and many more timber products.

Mrs Jenkinson said: "We approached NYTimber for support because of its strong reputation within the community and its timber knowledge. We were delighted when they agreed to help and the children and I are very grateful.

"The class has decided to continue the community spirit shown by NYTimber and donate the finished bird boxes to parks and care homes in the surrounding area."

Chris Stones, branch manager at NYTimber, said: "NYTimber is proud to be a local business that lends a helping hand to its community whenever possible. It's great to see young people learning about nature and sustainability, and I'm very impressed with the finished bird boxes."
