NYTimber, the independent timber specialist, has manufactured one of its most complex roof designs to date, which was worth more than £10,000, amid a growing trend for self builds in the North East of England.
The project, which incorporated 99 separate roof trusses, is one of the most intricate requests the company has received, and was made increasingly difficult by the presence of attic bedrooms, corridors and an office.
NYTimber’s specialist Truss Rafter Design Team measured and designed the roof structure, which included trusses that span 7.2m, using the latest MiTek software, following visits to the site in County Durham.
The roof trusses, some of which span 7.2m were then manufactured at NYTimber’s 100,000sqft fabrication centre in Brompton on Swale where five truss presses were used to turn around the order in just three days.
Using its fleet of specialist roof truss wagons, NYTimber arranged for the trusses to be delivered to site at a time to suit the customer and enable contractors to begin the installation as soon as possible.
NYTimber is continuing to support the customer during the house’s second fix by supplying bespoke Oak door frames and Oak feature doors.
Established in 1979, NYTimber is one of the largest independent timber importers and merchants in the North East and supplies housebuilders, construction companies, local builders and developers as well as the general public.
Nick Kershaw, managing director at NYTimber, said: “Self builds are becoming increasingly popular as people look to create homes that break traditional moulds and have added character, which is why we are receiving such interesting design requests.
"Fortunately for our customers, our design team have the combined experience of more than 100 years and are more than capable of creating and delivering even the most complex roof structures.
"It has been a very interesting and complex project that demonstrates how far we have come as a company. We’re now supplying roof trusses to national house builders, developers, and self-builders throughout the UK."
The customer, Mr. Large, added: "A number of companies were unable to provide a quote for the project due to its complexity; however, it wasn’t a problem for NYTimber, which returned an accurate and competitive quote quickly.
"The roof trusses, doors, and door frames have all been delivered on dates to suit the trades working on site to make sure the construction of the house runs as smooth as possible and without delay."
